5. How did you get started in illustration?

While working in academia, I had done a few paintings in my spare time, for fun. By the time I had decided to take the idea of writing seriously, after my stint as an astronomer, I already had a few paintings that I could supply as illustrations for the articles I would write. I had a slow start, so I had time to do more and more artwork. Gradually the number of illustrations grew, as did the frequency of my articles.
